Sc inmate pleads guilty in blackmail scheme of Greenville Army veteran

South Carolina prison inmate Carl Richard Smith Jr. admitted up to a judge Monday that he participated in a sextortion scheme Greenville that is targeting Army Jared Johns, whom passed away by committing suicide on Sept. 11, 2018.

But Smith, whom showed up via video clip from the Livesay Correctional Institution in Spartanburg, said he played merely a limited role in the plot.

As an element of a handle prosecutors, Smith, 45, pleaded guilty to 1 count of blackmail. Circuit Court Judge Alex Kinlaw stated Smith will be sentenced later.

Smith’s lawyer, Greenville lawyer William G. Yarborough, said after the hearing that Smith has decided to c perate with prosecutors in the full instance against co-defendant John William Dobbins. Read more
